Common Water Heater Issues and What Might Be Wrong
No Hot Water
There’s perhaps no worse way to start out your day than by stepping into what you think is a hot shower but getting doused with cold water. It depends whether you have a gas water heater or an electric water heater but this is certainly a sign you need to have your water heater repaired.
Water Too Hot or Not Enough Hot Water
These are common problems. If your hot water runs out halfway through your shower or won’t fill up your bathtub you likely have an issue with your hot water heater. You can try adjusting the temperature dial which may be the problem if you just moved into a new place. If that doesn’t work, you’ll want to call in the professionals. You might have a water heater that isn’t large enough for your home or it may be leaking.
Hot Water Smells Bad or is Discolored
This could be a variety of problems depending on whether the issue is coming from the water heater itself or the actual source water. If the cold water also smells bad, the culprit is likely the source water. You may need a water filter and/or a water softener. You may also need your hot water tank flushed or to have the anode rod replaced.
